Information about Plains can be obtained by contacting the Georgia Visitors Center located on HWY280. In addition to local information, the center has information about hundreds of locations across the state.
Visiting Plains
A trip to Plains gives you an opportunity to experience history in the hometown of the 39th President and First Lady of the United States of America. President Carter’s childhood home and farm are open to the public and maintained by the National Park Service. Mrs. Carter’s childhood home, located on South Bond Street, is not open to the public but a historical marker is located in front of this home.
Many visitors enjoy visiting the downtown area and talking with the local residents that run the shops.
The Plains Historical Preservation Trust has placed markers at historic locations around Plains and Archery. A self-guided driving tour booklet is available for purchase in town.
