Historic Site Hours of Operation – Free admission

Plains High School (Visitor Center/Museum): 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Plains Depot: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The historic site is open daily except on Thanksgiving day, Christmas day, and New Year’s day.

Jimmy Carter National Historic Site is located in Plains, Georgia, 10 miles west of Americus, Georgia on US 280.

From Atlanta, GA – Take I-75 South to Exit 101 (Cordele). At the end of the exit ramp make a right turn onto US 280 West to Americus (approx. 30 miles). In Americus, 280 becomes a three lane one-way road. Get in the middle lane and stay until the road dead ends at US 19. Turn left onto US 19 South/280 West, stay in the right lane. At the 2nd traffic light turn right onto US 280/GA 27 West,   proceed 10 miles to Plains. At the 1st flashing caution light, turn right onto   North Bond Street. The Plains High School Museum is on your right.

From Columbus, GA – Take GA 520 South/US 280 East. In Richland, turn left onto US 280/GA 27 East. Proceed through Richland and Preston. Plains is 10 miles west of Preston. At the 1st flashing caution light, turn left onto North Bond Street. The Plains High School (Visitor Center/Museum) will be on your right.

From Plains to Andersonville, GA – Take US 280/GA 27 East towards Americus. At first traffic light—turn left on US 19 North/US 280/GA 27 East. At the 2nd traffic light turn right onto US 280E/GA 27 East. Stay in far left lane. Proceed through downtown Americus—at Hardee’s Restaurant, turn left on GA Route 49 North. Proceed on GA Route 49 North 9 miles to the Andersonville National Historic Site on your right.
